I have lived in the Chelsea district for most of my life and I can truly say that my work, both in the visual arts and my love of writing are based around the swamp / grass lands, inlets and seascapes of Port Philip and Westernport bays.
I have had two major art exhibitions since I started painting, the first being held at Chapel on Station, Box Hill in 2008. This was named “Small Mercies” (The love of the sea: being by it, on it and in it) which was a collection of mainly Acrylic on canvas of, (yes you guessed it) aspects of the sea and its environs.
The second was held at the Kingston Art Centre in 2009. This exhibition was called “Nature Spirits” and was a collection of Acrylic on canvas paintings depicting the swamps and grasslands of Chelsea Heights during the seventies. This is the area I grew up in as a child and I found a love for the land, the sea and imagination playing amongst the cow paddocks and at the local Chelsea beaches.
My particular medium at the moment is acrylics but I love the challenge and subtleties that using watercolours can create. I am a member of the Mentone / Mordialloc Art Group and regularly display my work at their art shows and members exhibitions. I also occasionally manage to display my work at the Aspendale Gardens Medical Centre, 8 Springvale Road, Aspendale Gardens, when they can squeeze me in.
I’m an avid writer and love combining my stories with my art. My most recent book is called; “Nothing Over Five Foot Two Inches – A Short Person’s Collection of Short Stories”. This is a series of stories from my past, both as a child and an adult, growing up around the Chelsea area of which I have attempted to capture the humour and human aspects of life. My book launch was held at the Chelsea Historical Society 10th July 2011. Click here to view promotional flyer.
I also have in print: “Voyage Across America –Pat Ludwicks Tale of a R.A.N. family stationed in the USA”. This is the story of my parents stay in the US during the 1960’s through my mother’s eyes. I also contributed my stories to “Our Stories Should Never Die.” An Anthology of Australian Stories”
Contact me on 03 9773 1671 or Jennifer@jendatrading.com.au if you wish to purchase a copy of any of these books. I have a website, which I share with my husband David, to show some of my art to people who may be interested in viewing my work when I don’t have a physical place to display, I also have my books up on the site as well.
