At school I always preferred artistic endeavour to sporting prowess...I had no sporting ability.

As a teenager won  first prize at the local country agricultural show for pastel drawing. Knocked off the resident adult prize winner of long standing.

Decided at year 8 level that I wanted to be an art teacher ...so on leaving a country high school moved to hostel accommodation in Melbourne to 'do' a three year teacher training course at the then Melbourne Teacher's College, practical work at RMIT, and fine arts at Melbourne University.

Was then flung back to the country high school circuit for two years as a qualified teacher.  Family then decided to move to the city where I taught in two city high schools for many years. Marriage and two children meant a break in teaching.

Restlessness with domesticity meant a return to teaching and discovery of the light opera circuit where I was rehearsal pianist for many years.  Committee work and later directing shows was to become a big part of my life.  I returned to study to upgrade my teaching qualifications to Degree status and then did a Graduate Diploma in Music for Therapy.

My return to teaching was preceded by a four year stint as a tutor at the then Burwood State College, now Deakin University. Here I was employed 'teaching teachers how to teach'...in the visual arts area.

Teaching was a big part of my life until retirement and now I direct (Camelot for 2011, my 13th show directed for MLOC), paint portraits, run a U3A choir and most recently have a 15 minute segment on Southern FM radio, once a month interviewing people from the community on the creative arts. An aside of this radio stint is the adaptation of short stories for radio plays...something which is really grabbing my imagination.

So life does change direction in the most strange way. I wonder what is next.
